Supporting the Families of our Fallen Heroes

About Us

The Folded Flag Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides educational scholarships and support grants to the spouses and children of the U.S. military and government personnel who died as a result of hostile action or in an accident related to U.S. combat operations.

More Than a Decade of
Friendship, Honor, and Sacrifice

Our story began in 2014 when West Point classmates united to honor their fallen comrades and all the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our nation. Together, they founded The Folded Flag Foundation.

“Memorial Day is a special day set aside for us to remember and honor those who gave their lives defending our country. The children and spouses of these fallen heroes live with this sacrifice and memory every day,” said Bill Foley, Founder of The Folded Flag Foundation. “From the beginning, the mission of this organization has been to honor the legacy of our nation’s heroes by supporting their families. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our donors whose donations honor the legacy of these mothers, fathers, husbands and wives who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.”

For more than 10 years, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to honoring the legacy of our nation’s heroes and supporting their families. As we continue this mission, we invite you to stand with us in providing scholarships, financial assistance, and vital support services to the loved ones of fallen service members.

The Incredible Need
of These Families

Since 2001, nearly 10,000 men and women have died while deployed in the combat zone, leaving behind thousands of spouses and children. Limited government funding exists to support surviving families in their critical transition to civilian life.

Gold Star Testimonials

Elijah & John
Porter

Brothers Elijah & John Porter lost their father, U.S. Army E-4 Philip Aaron Porter, tragically passed away in April 2020 from an illness received during his service in combat. Both of his sons received their undergraduate degrees from his alma mater, Clemson University. John is now a registered nurse, and Elijah has graduated with his Master of Science in Agriculture with a concentration in Systems at Clemson University. Elijah and John both share, “Thank you so much for providing financial assistance for my education so that I can further my potential as a nurse. My brother is also in college as a graduate student and the recipient of a Folded Flag scholarship, so the organization has impacted our family significantly. We are both students at Clemson University, our dad’s alma mater, and where he is recognized in the Scroll of Honor, which makes our education even more meaningful. Thank you for lessening the burden on my mom as a single parent and for recognizing the sacrifices of our family.
