JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – March 1, 2016 – The Folded Flag Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for the 2016 – 2017 term from March 1 through May 15. Folded Flag is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization focused on raising and awarding money in the form of educational scholarships to surviving family members of military and government employees who have lost their lives in combat while serving our country.
The scholarship opportunities offered by The Folded Flag Foundation include:
  • Children’s education scholarships for private school tuition and educational programs and for children in grades K-12.
  • Scholarships for spouses and dependents to attend college or technical/trade school.
The Folded Flag Foundation was formed as a non-profit organization that relies on public donations to help supplement the current death benefits available to the dependents of United States military personnel and other government employees who have lost their lives in defense of our country. In its inaugural year last year, The Folded Flag Foundation awarded 12 scholarships.
Crystal Blasjo, wife of Sargeant Aaron Blasjo, U.S. Army, who was killed in action in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, is a recipient of a scholarship from The Folded Flag Foundation. “I’m very excited The Folded Flag Foundation has made it possible for me to go back to school and continue my education,” said Crystal. “Organizations like The Folded Flag Foundation help you continue your future.”
The Folded Flag Foundation accepts applications for educational grants and scholarships from March 1 through May 15 of each year, with grants and scholarships awarded in time for the Fall semester enrollment in the same year, and applicants are notified by June 30 as to the status of their application.
“We are honored to be able to award these scholarships to the deserving families of our bravest heroes,” said John Coogan, Executive Director of The Folded Flag Foundation. “These families have already paid such a tremendous toll in suffering through the loss of their loved one. The Folded Flag Foundation strives to pay tribute to the legacy of our fallen heroes by helping provide their families a pathway toward success.”
