National Gold Star Spouses Day, observed this year on Sunday, April 5, was day dedicated to recognizing the Gold Star wives and husbands across the nation.

The terms Gold Star family, Gold Star Spouses, and Gold Star Wives traditionally refer to the surviving loved ones of military members killed in the line of duty in combat. Gold Star Spouses Day was created to honor these loved ones.

Did you know that since 2001, more than 10,000 men and women have died in the combat zone, leaving behind thousands of spouses and children?

These men and women have already lost so much. That is why The Folded Flag Foundation has made it our mission to help surviving spouses and children by providing them scholarships and grants to help cover all educational costs from K-12 and beyond.

In 2019, we awarded more than $2.6 million in scholarships to nearly 347 recipients. 45 of those scholarships were awarded to spouses.
