Spring is a season for renewal and growth. At The Folded Flag Foundation, we hope to renew many of the 2017 educational scholarships we were able to provide to 131 Gold Star spouses and children to secure a future in honor of their fallen loved ones. We also hope to grow the number of scholarships granted to some of the thousands of spouses and children who we have yet to help – and who could use our support, both financially and emotionally.

The foundation’s ultimate goal is to connect with each one of these family members. Doing so, however, means raising $5 million in annual fundraising to cover the projected need of $100 million over the next 20 years. With the help from our donors, ambassadors, corporate sponsors and communities, we can meet this goal. Thank you all for your continuous support.

Today, Thursday, March 22, the state of Nevada will be hosting its 7^th annual “BIG GIVE” event where residents are encouraged to support their favorite local non-profit organization for 24 hours of giving.

The Folded Flag Foundation wants your help! Every donation made to Folded Flag today, will increase our chances of winning additional financial support from the state. Since Nevada’s Big Give was founded, over 15,000 unique donors have supported nearly 500 non-profits and schools throughout the region, raising $3.4 million in support of the organizations that make our great state. More information on GIVE BIG can be found here.

The Folded Flag Foundation is pleased to introduce Fourteenth Fold, a new society comprised of Folded Flag supporters who donate $1,000 or more to help our nation’s Gold Star Families. Members will receive a variety of exclusive and special items, such as complimentary tickets to attend Folded Flag events, Folded Flag-branded merchandise, recognition on the Folded Flag website and in the 13 Folds newsletter, and more.

2018-19 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PERIOD OPEN

The Folded Flag Foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2018-19 school year. The application period is open until May 15, with scholarships being awarded to those selected in time for the fall semester enrollment period. Applicants will be notified by July 15 as to the status of their applications.

To qualify for The Folded Flag Foundation’s scholarship program, applicants must be the spouse or child (aged 0-26) of a U.S. military or government employee who lost his or her life as a result of hostile action or in an accident related to U.S. combat operations.

AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT OF THE QUARTER:
James Schwartz

Dr. James Schwartz is currently a practicing dermatologist in Tucson, Arizona. He has been living there for over eight years with his wife, Kate, and their two sons, Whit and Stu.

Dr. Schwartz graduated from Clemson University in 1997 and continued on to medical school in Erie, PA. Dr. Schwartz received his dermatology specialty training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

After completing dermatology residency, Dr. Schwartz served as the Chief of Dermatology at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Ft. Hood, TX, for three years. He served as a physician on active duty in the United States Army for eight years.

Dr. Schwartz and his wife have been supporting The Folded Flag Foundation for more than two years, and have hosted several golf events that have raised over $60,000 for the organization. Dr. Schwartz and Kate are very dedicated to supporting families of fallen service members. They are currently working on this year’s event and will continue to raise money for Folded Flag for years to come.

Meet Corbin Cabrera

Corbin’s father, U.S. Army Lt. Col. David Cabrera, died on Oct. 29, 2011, from injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device (IED), when Corbin was only 13 years old. Corbin is now honoring his father’s sacrifice through his studies at Texas A&M University.
